The town of Perry was named after a hero of the War of 1812, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry.  Perry is the site of many historical buildings such as the New Perry Hotel which was built in 19254 and was a must-see stop for many Florida visitors back in the day.  The hotel boasts beautiful Neoclassical design and is located right on Main Street.
