The town of Gray, located right off Route 129, was named after local resident James M. Gray.  It was founded in 1850.  This town may be small but its got a rich history and offers a wonderful glimpse into the past.  Just take an afternoon to have a leisurely walk through the grounds of Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site where you can try to envision what life was like on a 1850s cotton plantation. And just a half mile from the Jarrell Plantation you'll find the Hitchiti Nature Trail, where you can enjoy a nice hike along the 4 mile loop that follows Little Falling Creek to the Ocmulgee River.
